This map presents the Seine Valley Waterway between Paris to Normandy and provides useful and interesting information.

The Seine is 776 Km /482 mile long river and an important commercial waterway within France. The Seine River forms at Source-Seine, 30 km/ 19 miles northwest of Dijon and flows northwesterly right through the heart of Paris bordering 10 of the 20 arrondisements and exits into the English Channel (La Manche) in an estuary between Le Havre and Honfleur. Because the Seine is dredged and has a tidal connection to the sea, ocean going vessels can use the river until Rouen, 120 km (75 miles) from the North sea. Commercial riverboats can use the river from Bar-sur-Seine, 560 km (350 miles) to Honfleur.
The water of the Seine is an important resource. Electric power stations, thermal and nuclear, pull their cooling water from the river. Half the water used in the Paris region, both for industry and for consumption, and three quarters of the water used in the area between Rouen and Le Havre, is taken from the river.
After the burning at the stake of Joan of Arc in 1431, her ashes were thrown into the Seine from the medieval stone Mathilde Bridge at Rouen
According to his will, Napoleon, who died in 1821, wished to be buried on the banks of the Seine. His request was not granted.
In 1991 UNESCO added the banks of the Seine in Paris—the Rive Gauche and Rive Droite—to its list of World Heritage Sites in Europe. The trick is to remember when you face DOWNRIVER the left bank is on your left and the right bank is on your right.
There are a total of 37 fish species inhabiting the Seine, some of which include Pike, Carp, Eels, Catfish, Trout, Shad, Smelt, and Salmon. In 1991 UNESCO added the banks of the Seine in Paris-the River Gauche and River Droite-to its list of World Heritage Sites in Europe. In this area you find some of the world’s most famous architectural masterpieces and landmarks: Cathedral of Notre-Dame, Sainte Chapelle, Conciergerie, Eiffel Tower, and the Louvre.
